The event celebrated and dignified women dairy farmers and promoted fresh milk consumption for a healthy nation. A key highlight by the Hon Minister of Livestock, Dr Idi Maiha, was the unveiling of the National Dairy Policy Implementation Framework.
The numbers speak volumes: Nigeria’s annual milk demand stands at ∼1.7 million metric tonnes, while local production is only 600,000–700,000 metric tonnes. This creates a supply gap that drives dairy imports worth over $1.5 billion annually.
Hon. Maiha remains committed to partnering with stakeholders to close this gap through innovation, modern biotechnology tools like gene editing, Artificial Insemnation and support for women-led agribusinesses in the dairy value chain. Let’s work together to boost local milk production and nutrition for a healthier Nigeria.
