The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the able leadership of the State Commandant, Commandant Akinsola Aderemi, continued its activities marking the 2026 International Civil Defence Day with a lecture focused on “Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future.”
The lecture was delivered by Deputy Commandant Onuegbu, the Head of the Disaster Management Unit.
In his presentation, he emphasized the growing threats posed by environmental hazards such as flooding, erosion, pollution, and other climate-related disasters.
He stressed the need for proactive risk assessment, effective disaster preparedness, and community participation in mitigating environmental challenges.
He further highlighted the critical role of the NSCDC in disaster response coordination, enforcement of relevant environmental protection laws, and sustained public sensitization to promote environmental responsibility.
