The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Rt. Hon. Mémounatou Ibrahima, to receive the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government and President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, at the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja.
In her remarks as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, I expressed our profound gratitude to His Excellency for the honour of his visit.
His presence among us as parliamentarians is particularly significant. It reflects the importance he attaches to dialogue among the institutions of our community and, especially, to the role of Parliament in building an ECOWAS that is closer to its citizens.
The visit reinforces our conviction that regular engagement between the Authority of Heads of State and Government and the Parliament can strengthen the coherence of Community action, deepen the representation of our peoples’ aspirations, and promote greater ownership of the regional integration project.
We also regard the visit as an encouragement to continue, with realism and responsibility, our reflection on the progressive strengthening of Parliament’s role and on the conditions necessary to forge closer ties between our institution and the citizens of the Community.
We wish His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye every success in the discharge of his responsibilities as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
