The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Chike Princewill, has charged newly inducted medical doctors and dental surgeons to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and honesty as they embark on their careers in the service of humanity.
Professor Princewill gave the charge on Friday, August 7, 2026, during the 57th Induction Ceremony of Medical Doctors and the 14th Induction Ceremony of Dental Surgeons, held at the CBN Centre of Excellence, University of Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to distinguished visitors, members of the medical profession, parents, guardians, stakeholders and well-wishers for joining the University in celebrating another milestone in the training of healthcare professionals.
Addressing the inductees, Professor Princewill reminded them that the medical and dental professions are founded on trust, compassion and ethical conduct. He urged them to remain disciplined, accountable and committed to the highest ideals of their profession, stressing that the confidence reposed in them by patients and society must never be compromised.
He further encouraged the new professionals to see their induction not merely as the completion of their academic training but as the beginning of a lifelong commitment to excellence, continuous learning and selfless service to humanity.
Professor Princewill congratulated the newly inducted medical doctors and dental surgeons on attaining this significant milestone and commended the College of Health Sciences, members of staff, parents and guardians for their unwavering support and contributions to the success of the graduates.
He expressed confidence that the new medical professionals would distinguish themselves in their various fields of practice while upholding the values, excellence and reputation of the University of Port Harcourt.
The oath of professional practice was administered by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr Fatima Kyari, who was represented by the Assistant Registrar of the Council, Dr Tijani Mandaka.
