The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially welcomed its newly appointed Director-General, Dr. Abuh Mohammed, at a ceremony held at the Commission’s headquarters.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, assured the new Director-General of the full cooperation and support of the Honourable Federal Commissioners, Management, and the entire staff.

“As you assume your responsibilities, you have our full cooperation and support,” Yusuf said. “The Honourable Federal Commissioners, Management and the entire staff of the Commission are committed to working with you as one team to strengthen coordination, improve efficiency, embrace innovation and ensure that the resources entrusted to us are used responsibly.”

Yusuf also called on all members of staff to extend the necessary cooperation and professional support to the new leadership.

“Let us share our knowledge and experience, offer constructive ideas and work together to address the challenges before us,” he said. “The success of this leadership will, in many respects, be the success of the National Population Commission. And the success of the Commission is ultimately a contribution to the development of Nigeria.”

He described the appointment as a fresh opportunity to advance the Commission’s mandate.

“Today, therefore, we welcome not only a new Director-General, but a new opportunity to strengthen the work we have begun and advance the mandate entrusted to this Commission,” Yusuf added.

In his remarks, Dr. Mohammed thanked the Chairman, Federal Commissioners, Management, and staff for the warm reception. He pledged to work with the team to transform the Commission and advance its mandate.

Dr. Mohammed assumed office on July 27, 2026, succeeding the immediate past Director-General, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun. His appointment was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 20, 2026 for an initial term of four (4) years.

The Commission has congratulated Dr. Mohammed and wished him a successful tenure.
