The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Chike Princewill, has called on members of the University community to work collectively towards repositioning the institution for greater excellence, sustainability and growth.
Professor Princewill made the call today during his first official worship at the Chapel of the Annunciation Catholic Chaplaincy, University of Port Harcourt since assuming office as Vice-Chancellor.
Addressing the congregation, the Vice-Chancellor appealed to the Church community to continue supporting the University through prayers, goodwill and active partnership, noting that the institution’s progress requires the commitment of all stakeholders.
He stressed that every member of staff has a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the University by diligently discharging their duties and embracing innovative ideas that will enhance the institution’s development.
Professor Princewill urged staff to “put on their thinking caps” by exploring practical ways of generating revenue and mobilising resources that would strengthen the University’s capacity to deliver on its mandate despite prevailing economic challenges.
The Vice-Chancellor also underscored the vital role of the Church in shaping moral values and nurturing responsible citizens. According to him, faith-based institutions remain indispensable partners in promoting discipline, integrity and ethical conduct, which are essential for nation-building and the overall development of the University community.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive leadership and called on staff, students, alumni, religious bodies and other stakeholders to join hands in building a stronger, more innovative and globally competitive University of Port Harcourt.
